Hoplophoneus is an extinct nimravid feline that lived during the Oligocene, about 20 million years earlier than the Smilodon. It is believed that the Hoplophoneus was the predecessor of Smilodon and teeth sable, but new fossil evidence shows that the Hoplophoneus and Smilodon underwent through different storylines. This cast replica skull is an exact copy of a specimen found at South Dakota, USA.
