Description

Hyaenodon is an extinct mammal belonging to Creodonta. Some of the species of this genus were among the largest land carnivores. They appeared in the Upper Eocene and lived during the Oligocene. The structure of their skulls indicates that we had a great sense of smell. Fossils of Hyaenodon have been discovered in Asia, North America, Europe and Africa. This copy was found in the White River Badlands of South Dakota, USA and belongs to the Oligocene.
