Description

Asterodermus platypterus was a ray species that lived during the Jurassic period (200-145 million years ago). This ray shared the seas with Ichthyosarus and Plesiosaurs. Fossils of Asterodermus have been found in Britain, France, and Germany. Asterodermus is classified in the family Rhinobatidae. Living members of this family are often called guitarfishes. There are ten genera and many species. One is Aptychotrema rostrata, which is the Australian eastern shovelnose ray. Text from Neal Robbins.
