Thylacosmilus atrox

Age:La Pampa, Argentina
Locality:Miocene to Pliocene
Length:0.18 meters

Thylacosmilus was a sabre-toothed sparassodont, a group closely related to marsupials. It is a fine example of convergent evolution, since it superficially resembled sabre-toothed cats, even though it is unrelated with them. (information taken from Wikipedia.org) This skull is a replica from the species T. atrox.
